Let go of the life you have plannned

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us” Joseph Campbell

We all grow up with certain dreams of what we want our life to be like and then we work, consciously or unconsciously to achieve just that. Thing is how often do we stop what we are doing and ask ourselves is this really what I want? Do I really want to do a 9-5 job and discuss reasons of why I should get a pay raise every year? Or would I be happier if I work for myself and build something from scrap? Whatever it is that you are doing, that you are spending most of your energy in achieving, does it really make you happy? Or is this an outdated dream? maybe you have grown much more, acquired a whole different skill set that you are not paying attention to, dreamt a whole different dream that you blew off as unachievable. Do you stop & take stock of how you are branding and selling yourself – to both yourself and others?

If you did that…. if you stopped and discovered that where you are is not where you want to be …. then how do you move forward? What do you change?

If you had to let go of just one thing today…. what would it be?

  1. Yoohoo! I’ve just realised one thing – I’m not going to… let go. Like 15 minutes ago I was writing a post for my blog (don’t tell anyone cause I’m at work) that I will not start doing things that I am supposed to do – I am not going to start studies that do not interest me, I am not going to settle down and I am not going to start building up my “future”. Fuck it! I like things the way they are now – finally!!!! – and if i am to let go it’s bothering about somebody else’s dissapointment… When I say or write it I feel like a rebelious teenager but again – fuck it – maybe it’s the time for me to become this teenager cause then I really was in those years Iwas a VERY GOOD GIRL (except for the moment when I wasn’t…).

  3. I was going to say I’d let go of foolish mistakes, but then I thought if I did I’d maybe make them all over again. So instead I’d say ‘unrealistic expectations’ because you set yourself up for disappointment every time….Diane

    • But foolish mistakes never seem foolish in the moment of their making 😦 and expectations are hard to manage, even when you decide not to keep any, some do crop up. How are you handling that? I could use the lesson too 🙂

  4. Sometimes I realize that what I want to happen ..is maybe not going to ever and yet I cling to believing it will…and that’s not good because I’m in an underlying constant state of ‘expectation’ of it actually coming to pass.. And I feel I should let go in order to have peace about it…..I don’t know if I’ve said it right… There is not really wisdom in this case..Diane

  5. Strange, I can’t think of anything I need to let go. Anything that needed “doing” was “done” 😀
