This is the first time I came across MJ’s speech. His whole take on “Heal the Children” is so inspiring that I just had to share this here. It is not just about the children, it is about us, adults, too. I have quoted the part that touched me the most below, but I ask my readers to take a moment and follow the link to read the whole interview.

‘I would therefore like to propose tonight that we install in every home a Children’s Universal Bill of Rights, the tenets of which are:

1. The right to be loved without having to earn it

2. The right to be protected, without having to deserve it

3. The right to feel valuable, even if you came into the world with nothing

4. The right to be listened to without having to be interesting

5. The right to be read a bedtime story, without having to compete with the evening news

6. The right to an education without having to dodge bullets at schools

7. The right to be thought of as adorable – (even if you have a face that only a mother could love).

Friends, the foundation of all human knowledge, the beginning of human consciousness, must be that each and every one of us is an object of love. Before you know if you have red hair or brown, before you know if you are black or white, before you know of what religion you are a part, you have to know that you are loved.”

I love this. Will read the rest of the speech.

  2. Just realized that the excerpt I highlighted was still part of the speech. Whoops. Well I love that MJ said it.

  3. Thank you so much for re-blogging this. I found out about this speech shortly after June 25, 2009 and I realized how much I did not know about MJ. I wish this was pushed forward to the public more so than the other BS that was circulating in the media about him, not only for his sake but for the sake of children because the message is so desperately needed in today’s world. Again, thanks for spreading this wonderful speech. I hope your readers enjoy it as much you and I did.
