The last week has been one of exciting changes, between pushing through the last of the formalities that would make my department change official and preparing to handover my previous responsibilities to a designated person, it was an exciting and in some way a bittersweet time.
I paused to reflect on how I had joined Ericsson as a coordinator and then gone on to take on various roles within services and operations. My first big push had come from Tim Parkin, my first boss here who believed that I was capable of taking on far more responsibility than I was handling and accordingly pushed, mentored and above all else believed in me.
I feel like it is partly Tim’s faith in my ability to take on bigger roles and partly the appetite that I developed as a result of it that fuels me in my pursuit of bigger challenges. When I applied for project manager role I was told that it is hectic, challenging, will require long hours and an ability to withstand a barrage of verbal abuse by customers without taking any of that personally. I thought it sounded like the perfect challenge after a year and more of working within the organization handling operational issues and change management programs.
Yesterday has been my first day at the new department and it’s been interesting to say the least. While I had run an improvement program in this department, I find that there’s a lot of things to learn and that in itself is exciting. My new boss talks about hitting the ground running and gearing up to speed ASAP and while that might sound pushy to some… to me it sounds heavenly.
Adrenaline junkie … maybe … but the juice is definitely flowing again.
